Whether it’s the colder months taking their toll or your skincare routine needing a refresh, dry skin is a common skin complaint. If your skin could do with a little TLC right now, here’s how you can spot and soothe unwanted cracked heels and dried-out complexions...

What causes dry skin?

Although dry skin is more common in the winter when the temperature drops and our skin is exposed to lower levels of moisture in the air, it can have a number of causes throughout the year. For instance, in contrast, hot and humid environments can draw moisture from the skin. Dehydration, poor nutrition and irritants can all also cause your skin to become dry or scaly. Over time, skin loses its ability to retain water, so you may find skin appears thinner and less pump simply from getting older, too. Irritants can even include soaps and body washes that contain certain ingredients more likely to strip moisture from your skin, so it’s important to be aware of what you’re putting on your face and body to keep it at its most hydrated.

How do I treat dry skin on the face?

When you’re trying to combat dry skin, you need the best moisturisers you can find in your arsenal – or bathroom cabinet. Regularly moisturising not only helps to reduce patches of existing dry skin but also discourages new ones from forming.

Meet Your Moisturisers

Skin Rescuer

We recommend Skin Rescuer, enriched with ceramides, this formula is designed to help protect the skin from daily stresses and strengthen its barrier function, helping to prevent Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL).

Centella Sensitive Cica-Cream

Our alcohol-free Centella Sensitive Cica-Cream also provides sensitive skin with intense hydration to help soothe the feelings of tightness and make it feel more comfortable.

Ultra Facial Cream

Our Ultra Facial Cream boasts up to 24-hour lasting hydration. Enriched with a combination of glacial glycoprotein and olive-derived squalene, this formula balances the skin’s hydration levels, fighting against moisture loss even in extreme humidity.

Non-comedogenic facial oils can also be a great source of hydration for the skin. Try Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Herbal Concentrate to help calm the feeling of stressed skin and strengthen its barrier function, and Midnight Recovery Concentrate for a botanical-packed formula that works while you sleep.

As well as the face, dry skin most frequently occurs on the hands, feet, knees and elbows – generally, the areas of your body that are most exposed to the elements. Cracked heels and dry skin on the feet are also common because of daily wear and tear – whether that’s ill-fitting shoes or standing for too long – and also because you have fewer oil glands here than around the rest of the body.

We recommend you treat dry, flaky skin with Crème de Corps our nourishing body butter that’s packed with a high concentration of skin-nurturing ingredients such as shea butter and avocado oil and has a non-greasy, hydrating finish.

Crème de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter’s hair-whipped formula also quickly absorbs into damp skin to deliver deep hydration and seal in surface moisture.
